Take a Walk on the Ice Side

The Sólheimajökull Glacier Walk has become a volcano experience in itself. Since this glacier tongue lies just east of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano the effects of the eruption are obvious on its surface. What once was white is now different shades of black, decorated with lighter (silver) lines where the water has washed away the ash. If conditions allow the ash plume is also clearly visible from the glacier. This is a safe and easy walk on crampons up onto the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses awaits your discovery. Our experienced mountain guides will teach you how to use basic glacier equipment necessary for this tour. On the way back there is a stop at the picturesque waterfalls, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, that flow from the erupting Eyjafjallajökull Glacier. A glacier walk on Sólheimajökull is a great way to experience Icelandic nature in all its diversity.
