We head towards Hekla, Iceland’s most famous active volcano with its snow-covered peak. Hekla was notorious in medieval Europe as it was believed to be the entrance to hell and it has maintained it's reputation by erupting approximately twenty times the since country was settled. From the foothill of the volcano we drive over a truly rugged mountain track past lava fields, explosion craters and hot springs. We head into the Torfajökull glacier area, which is the largest high-temperature geothermal area in Iceland. The mountain scenery and views are spectacular and from the summit we will enjoy a panorama of eight glaciers if weather permits. We then head into Landmannalaugar traversing a few streams and rivers in our specially build Super Jeep. We will stop allowing time for exploring or a refreshing dip in the nearby hot springs stream. On our way back we'll visit the explosive crater Ljotipollur with its range of colours. This tour is truly unforgettable and a real geological treat mixed with some real 4x4 experience.
